Dele and Babalola

I have now read this book.

For non lawyers, this book is without nuance and brave.

For lawyers, this book ought to be nuanced. When lawyers blame technicalities as the basis of the failure of their litigation, it’s like a carpenter blaming his tools for his failure to make a chair.

Facts, the law, court processes and rules are the ingredients of any litigation and any of the routes leads one to desired ends. As the ignorable Americans would say, if the law supports your case, you bang on the law, if the facts supports your case, you bang on your facts. And if neither supports your case, you bang on your desk.

It’s seems to me that Dele was banging on his desk in the examples he gives.

I am not a witch and have no wish to engage their transactions but I will deal with what the human eyes and ears can deal with. Most of the examples in the book boards on witchcraft transactions not known to non witches.

In such event, a fictional portray of his recollection and suppositions would have conveyed the same import and without the bravery.

I have heard Nigerian politicians accuse others of speaking English as if there was another medium of communication. This is usually when they have lost the argument and resort to playing the man.

The basic point is when you are unable to play ball, you play the man. In a mixture of metaphors, that’s not cricket.

If you are unsure of the rules of the game, then it’s safe not to play. But don’t attempt to play the game and blame the rules for your failure to excel.

Having said all of the above the sledgehammer currently deployed against Dele speaks to and of the allegations made against the culprits in this book. They have constituted themselves into impediments in the proper administration of justice in Nigeria. They have no interest in jurisprudence and law but their ungodly quest for power in the corporate state of Nigeria and this book is a damning indictment of Babaola and his cohorts.
