ESHA is the legislative arm of the Edo state government and it is led by the Speaker.
The ESHA is majority PDP and the minority party is APC.
A month ago, there was an off cycle election for governor and one Monday Okpebholo of the APC was declared the victor and his victory is currently under judicial review at the election tribunal.
A few weeks ago, he appeared to be wanting to discharge the elected officials of the 18 Local Government Councils (LGC) and the chief judge in an apparent unsolicited advise to both the ESHA and the governor, that given the recent Supreme Court of Nigeria decision on the autonomy of LGC and could not be considered administrative units of the state government and therefore subject to administrative removal from office.
The Nigeria constitution as judged by the NSC, that all members of the LGC must be elected. Under democratic principles, only the electorate can appoint and sack its representatives or under specific provisions of the constitution.
Nigeria democracy goes to die in the states.
The government of Edo state has summarily dismissed all elected LGC chairpersons.
The APC governor wrote to the PDP led ESHA to suspend all the chairpersons of all the LGC. The ESHA obliged without critically examining the request. Was it legal, on what legal and democratic basis was the request based on.
Now the crux of the question.
What is the point of Mr Blessing Agbebaku.
This is a man who superintended the adjudged illegal impeachment of the last deputy governor of the state.
Mr Agbebaku remained in office in the face such disastrous misadventure by the previous governor Obaseki. When told to jump by any sitting governor, Mr Agbebaku, asks how high.
He is not worthy to hold such high office given the constitutional obligations placed on that office and place.
Both the Speaker and the Governor were both deaf to the legal opinion provided by the chief judge of the state.
These roughshod steps by the Edo state government against the LGC must fail. The fragility of our desired democratic governance will be exposed for the sham it is.
If the LGC were wanting, surely they could not have all infringed the law. The only offence they appear to have committed is of being PDP.
The irony of it all, is the yellow liver Mr Agbebaku of the PDP laid down and died politically for an idiot of a governor. The stick used to beat the PDP local councils will be used to beat the PDP members of the ESHA.
Who are the PDP fucker members of ESHA who were willingly led to their political graves without as much as a whimper.
What does one call a collective of political cowards masquerading as politicians, Agbebakus.
