Trump claimed that Obama tapped his phone network at his Trump Tower. Trump is the president of America, he is head of government and its agencies. The only agencies an American president can use for wiretapping is the FBI for domestic matters and the NSA, CIA, DMI for external matters all under judicial oversight. Therefore if Obama had instructed any of these agencies, all Trump had to do is call the head of such an agency and request for information or confirmation. Trump did not.
Trump is ascribing his source to TV pundits and newspaper articles, whose method of punditry is to speculate because they do not have the resources available to Trump. Therefore one is forced to conclude that the reference to these sources was not meant to verify such a claim as made by Trump.
The rationale for the claim was to create an alternative ground for diversion to his Russian assisted election. Watching and listening to his supporters, you can see when asked about Trump’s Obama claim, they all in chorus, privet to their Russian problem. They all say, there is no evidence for both claims. If Trump had not made his Obama claim such basis of discussions would not be available to them.
As a Nigerian poet once said, Trump is like a magician, watch what he does, not what he says. Trump’s Obama claim is Trump in his magical flourish, his Russian assisted election is his deed. That’s what one should keep an eye on.
