Sycophantic and non critical essays are the bane of our governments from the dawn of time and this word salad article is written in the usual tradition of sycophancy in Nigeria. Godwin Obaseki did not commence his interest in being a governor on the day of the APC primaries but one assumes an ambition natured both by him and his predecessor well before his nomination and election. This timeline should have been utilised to map out his program for office and people who would have shared his political aim. The level of underdevelopment is one which requires an urgency of now and not a slow walker who upon achieving his political aim now want to take his sweet time to nominate his key officials and in the meanwhile the state suffers from paralysis of his sole administration. If the constitution wanted us to have sole administrators as governors, it could have provided for such a position. Rather the constitution provides for a state executive council made up of the governor, his deputy and commissioners which specific functions. That provision have been left fallow since Mr Obaseki was sworn into office. In the meantime, he seeks to reengineer our government by creating a parallel local government structure with his 192 so called advisers. He has presented this expensive experiment as a devolved government, that’s a fist class poppycock. We have local governments and their constitutional function to have grassroots representation. We are too broke for this ill thought out APC experiment. Let the state government, allow local government elections to take place as evidence of their democratic values. To cloth these appointments as such is being clever by half and an attempt to fool some people this time.
