Edo Assembly calls for panel of inquiry on four murdered policemen by Agency Report

Edo House of Assembly on Tuesday urged the Nigeria Police to set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the gruesome murder of four policemen in Owan West Local government area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that four policemen attached to the Sabongida-Ora Division were on Saturday ambushed and murdered between Oke-Ora and Avbiosi in Owan West Local Government Area of the state by unknown assailants

The policemen, said to be routine security patrol, were reportedly shot dead as they were alighting from their Toyota Hilux patrol van.

The patrol vehicle was said to have been set ablaze with the bodies of the victims inside and their weapons allegedly taken away by the assailants.

Mr Victor Asein representing (APC Owan West) constituency, who made the call under matters of urgent public importance, expressed worry over the state of insecurity in the country.

“The guns taken away by the hoodlums could be used for other nefarious activities in the area.

“I want to call on the state command to deploy more personnel to the area following the death of the four policemen,’’ he said.

Other lawmakers sympathised with the families of the victims and called for adequate compensation.

They also stressed the need for the Police to change their mode of operation.

The Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, thereafter, directed that clean copies of the resolution be sent to the relevant bodies for action.

Meanwhile, the house also passed a bill for an act for the establishment of Edo State Transport Authority.

The speaker directed that the bill be sent to the governor for assent.
